We lay with the kids at bedtime and get some snuggles in. Elsie's new phrase is 'put your feets in'. She doesn't want to just snuggle, she wants you under the covers. This is mostly because she wants you to rub her feet, which you can't do if you are not under the covers with her.
She has a few other phrases she's tossing around regularly. She likes to announce 'I have a good idea' when she wants to do something. If she wants to play catch and the boys are doing something else, she'll say 'I have a good idea boys, why don't we play catch?' And sometimes Danny and Sammy get on board. Other times she uses it to teach a lesson, if everyone is fighting over a toy, she'll say 'I have a good idea, why don't we take turns'. Elsie the diplomat. Her other phrase is 'what about'. I'll say put your shoes on and brush your teeth before school and she'll respond with 'what about Danny goes first while I play?' Or I'll say let's put our toys away before dinner and I get 'what about we leave our toys out so we can play again after dinner?' I'm not sure why she thinks it's a negotiation because I never give her a different answer than the original. In fact, it only gets worse with every debate, as she loses privileges and inches closer to time out. I love when she puts the 2 phrases together. I told them after school one day we were going to run errands and take a rest. She said 'Momma, I have a good idea, how about I just sit silently instead of taking a rest?' Ay yi yi.
We got an echo for Christmas, and Sammy calls her 'Balecka'. I can't even correct him because it is so adorable. And Sammy has this super high pitched voice which makes it even cuter. We mostly use the echo for setting a timer to settle disputes over toys, and last month Sammy went into the kitchen and said 'Balecka, Danny is playing with the spiderman toy and I want to play with the spiderman toy, but he won't let me, and it's Danny spiderman toy but I really like it so can you tell him to give me the spiderman toy in 5 minutes? Balecka are you listening?' And Elsie walks in the kitchen and says 'Alexa set the timer for 5 minutes. See Sammy? You just have to use a strong voice.' God help us when she is a teenager.
The kids started piano lessons last month. They are so into music and playing instruments and dancing that I wanted to let them harness that. I bought them Ukuleles for Christmas (Elsie calls it a Kookalaylee), and they have a toy drum, saxaphone, clarinet, guitar, and a trumpet. We have a baby grand piano, and they love to bang on it all the time. We go for 1 hour a week, and the first lesson Sammy came out and said 'I had so much fun!'
Sammy is completely into dinosaurs. He's been watching this History app on his kindle tablet that teaches you all about all the different dinosaurs. He knows all the different kinds and pronounces them well (unlike Balecka). It's cool to see him so interested in something.
Danny has been cracking me up with some of the stuff he's said lately. I feel like he is really thinking about a lot of things and then tries to express it. So first off, he calls the tylenol syringe a ringe-sa. And he loves to play doctor so he is always asking me if he can use the ringe-sa. He is also making a ton of 'pew pew' machines. He loves Spider-Man and he says when Spider-Man shoots his webs he goes 'pew pew' (insert spidey hand gesture here). So he makes 'pew pew' machines which are basically anything that can shoot things. Straws, tubes, slingshots, catapults, are all his pew pew machines. Well he came to me one morning saying his pew pew machine wasn't working on the fire truck. This is a toy fire truck that has a little 'water shooter' that shoots foam balls. My mother goes to investigate and he has rocks in it. Now this toy can shoot the foam balls a good 10 feet, thank goodness the rocks jammed it.
His latest word is 'actually'. He usually starts a sentence with 'Actually mom, I was just playing with that and Sammy took it' or 'Actually mom, the bad guys got my shoes all dirty.' Well alrighty then :)
Last week Danny was running and fell and got a good egg on his head. Well several of us used that phrase in the next day or so, and he started crying. He was genuinely concerned (to real tears) that the egg on his head was going to crack. Try explaining that one to a toddler.
Easter was another great day with family. Only 20 people this year so a little bit smaller, and the weather was not great but could have been worse. We enjoyed a nice Easter Egg Hunt after lunch and some great memories with family playing in the yard.

Our Sammy was diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity(ROP- what Stevie Wonder has), and we thought those blue eyes may never see. Well here we are at 4.5 yo and he is barely nearsighted. However, his left eye is falling behind a little, so we are gonna try some glasses to catch it back up. He was super excited to get glasses like Daddy.
