Fall fun

We are 2 year olds in full swing!  Elsie showed this with her new word 'nah'.  She shakes her head no and waves her arms like she is all done with you at the same time she says it.  I'm trying to teach her yes, but every time I say yes, she says nah with the 'no' shake.  Put on any movie besides Mickey Mouse and 'nah'.  Pick a fruit she doesn't like for snack and 'nah'.  Is it time to get dressed and change your diaper?...'nah'.  Alrighty then.

Toddler emotions are also in full swing.  Lots of crying and throwing themselves onto the floor in utter despair!  I ate my snack faster than they did and now they are eating and I am not?  Devastating.  I forgot about that cool bouncy ball in the corner and now my brother is playing with it?  Heartbreaking.  I have to put on my shoes and jacket before going outside?  Unfathomable.  I can't carry around all 8 toys I'm currently playing with so I have to put one down?  Disastrous.  I'm hoping as their communication skills increase, they will not be so frustrated.

We do have lots of new words and phrases.  I feel like this month it has started coming together a little faster.  Elsie's second favorite word is 'Mickey Mouse'.  We started watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and she is all about it. She also got a Mickey Mouse puzzle with all the characters and she is an ace at putting it together.  Danny is really building his vocabulary, using words like thanks, sorry (this is the word he uses the most since he has to apologize to get out of time out), binkie, mine, and snack.  Sam says bye, gramma, up, va-va for vovo, and is the best at imitating sounds (animals, cars, etc).

Speaking of binkies, we are making the dreaded transition.  I am trying to do it without provoking life long anxiety in Danny. He has clearly figured out that the binkie does not get attached to his shirt anymore and is therefore not 'at the ready' for him.  He also knows that it 'disappears' when he wakes up and only reappears right before nap or bedtime.  This has made him ultra aware of all his binkie whereabouts, and he accumulates 'backups' and spares every chance he gets.  There are times he is carrying one in his left hand, two in his right hand, and will interchange them 'put blue one in, take green one out, put purple one in, take blue one out'... depending on what activity he is doing.  Like one has different powers than the others.  I feel so bad for him because I know he is very dependent on it for soothing, so we are trying to make the transition slowly and smoothly, taking cues to how much he can handle.  Sometimes when he is really stressed he will go to the gate and point to the counter where it is and say 'my binkie' and so I give it to him for a bit.  He has been going several hours at a time without it, so looking to just keep moving forward.  Elsie on the other hand is on step 6 of the program.  She doesn't need it during the day at all now.  She is still using at night for bed, but I will slowly wean that as well hopefully over the next few weeks. Wish us luck!

We've had a lot of outings this month, I'll caption the photos as I go.  There are also lots of videos since I haven't posted in a month.  I thought this would be a good time to go to monthly updates, but I feel when writing it that I forgot some things from earlier in the month, so we'll see how next month goes.
