Now that we are all healthy and things are getting back to normal, we've been trying to get out and enjoy this beautiful weather. We have been to the park, gone out for ice cream, been on lots of walks, played down the cape, chased some chickens, done some flower shopping, splashed in our water table, and helped Daddy do yard work. We have lots of cookouts and birthday parties coming up and we are learning with every outing how to stay close to Mommy and not run off. Sammy and Elsie are getting better at this, Danny on the other hand is like a beagle puppy let out of his cage as he runs in one direction and keeps going.
The kids are loving their new favorite game....chase. Now that they can walk well, all they want to do is run. And running after each other giggling is the best! Sammy does a little shuffle when he runs which is so cute, he puts his head down and wiggles it back and forth. Elsie puts her hands up and down almost like that helps her go faster. And Danny just goes for it with reckless abandon...falls flat on his face, gets back up and goes for it again. He is so fast I am full out sprinting to catch him, which makes for some challenges if we are not in a cordoned off area.
We have a new favorite movie in the house....Pitch Perfect. The kids had been stuck on Frozen for a long time, I would try other Disney flicks, but they really weren't interested. I realize it is because Frozen has so many songs, so I put on Pitch Perfect one day and the kids loved dancing to all the songs. Now they clap and cheer when I play it on the DVR. They are adding all kinds of dance moves, I will try to get some on video for the next post.
They are also eating like horses. Miguel brought home fish and chips and the kids ate their small order (usually 1 to share) and Miguel's large order. Last week we ordered pizza for the guys working in the yard and Elsie ate 3 pieces from a large cheese pizza. Holy Moly. I had to stop her because I thought she would get sick. Sammy hoards his food. When I put it on his tray he brings it all in to a little pile that he can guard. Seriously the cutest thing ever. And Danny just continuously signs 'more' the entire time he is eating. Both hands are full of food? Doesn't matter he smacks them together asking for more. The kid has no limit.
Still working on words everyday. They are definitely trying to sound out more words. They watch me say the word and then try it. We get some funny sounds as they try to make words. We've been working on banana and book this week. The 'N' and 'K' sounds are giving them some trouble but we are getting closer. There is a ton of pointing and grunting or yelling going on. Also lots of meltdown tantrums, so hoping to speed up this talking thing so they can communicate their needs rather than throw themselves down and kick their feet. I do love how when they are screaming and flailing on the ground they take time to pause to see if it is working. Usually I've already walked away and then they get up and move on as well. Gladly, this hasn't happened in public YET. Sadly, I don't think I can legally walk away when it does. Sigh.
On a bittersweet note, I resigned from Fairhaven High School after 13 years of teaching math. I will miss my colleagues and students, but so happy to be home with my kiddos. Sometimes it is hard for people to understand the reality we live with. We had babies on the brink of viability, we watched them fight to stay alive for months. We saw babies in the NICU die and knew that could have been us. We recently had a triplet mom in our group who lost all 3 babies at 19 weeks. I follow another triplet mom blog who lost 1 at birth, 1 eight weeks later, and has one beautiful little girl still here. It's hard to comprehend these tragedies, or fully appreciate how fortunate we are for these little miracles. I'm not sure why we were so lucky, but I can't imagine embracing any other career beyond being the best Mom I can raising these 3 little blessings. I am grateful that I created a successful dog grooming business that allows me the flexibility to work part time and still do something I love. I look forward to our new chapter.
